Together with the efforts of business, Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) always apply and implement standards of environmental protection better which made a modern environmental management system is suitable with our activities. Besides under the direction of Toyota Corporation, TMV will not stop researching, investment and application of new technologies which are friendly with environment in production division; raising the awareness of environmental protection as well as encouraging Kaizen activities for all staffs.

Thanks to the efforts, in May 1999,  TMV had the honor to be the first automobile manufacturer in Vietnam to receive certificate of  ISO 14001 environmental management system. In September 2005, the TMV environmental management system was re-certified in accordance with ISO 14001: 2004 and in Dec. 2008, TMV received the latest (2008) version of ISO 14001.

Clean production
Not only implement production process follows to the standard and higher in the Environmental Management System, TMV is also one of the leading companies strictly implement clean manufacturing process. Accordingly, TMV conducted a review of the environmental impacts in the whole life cycles of its products from vehicle production and use through to dismantlement. This is a agreement direction which both protect the environment, both to reduce the materials consumption, energy, chemical,… to raise the competitiveness of the products.

 

Waste water treatment
One of solutions to reduce pollution that TMV has implemented is to install a wastewater treatment factory with a capacity of 300 m3 / day that meets the column B in the Vietnamese standard guidelines (applied for agriculture and aquaculture).

 

Hard dangerous waste treatment
After a long time finding and negotiating, up to 2005, TMV have appointed Urenco and Holcim Cement to implement waste treatment and demolition to achieve the “zero landfill” target – absolutely unharmed to the environment. Currently, solid waste collected from factory have been reused as fuel in Holcim Cement Vietnam factory in Kien Giang.

Achievements in other programs of waste collection and processing

Waste oil collection

 

In Feb 2002, a “Waste oil collection campaign” was officially introduced in all of Toyota’s dealers nation-wide to collect, store and transfer waste oil from dealers to waste collection and processing companies. This campaign has contributed tremendously to improving the awareness of staff as well as customers about environmental protection.

 

 

Waste oil collection & processing and diesel filtering

 

To optimize the effect of waste oil processing and diesel filtering, TMV has developed a system of waste oil collection, processing and diesel filtering to protect the environment. As a result, huge quantities of used oil litter and hundreds of kilograms of metal have been recycled.

Organic solvent recovery and recycling

 

TMV has developed a network of organic solvent recovery and recycling in all of its dealers since Nov. 2004. By using solvent refining, we can reduce the amount of new solvent purchased, and this is also the optimal solution for protecting the environment. Furthermore, TMV encourages its dealers save costs by using only the bare amount of organic solvent that is needed.

HFC/CFC Recovery and Recycling

 

From 1999, TMV has supported all of its dealers with training courses regarding air- conditioner accessories maintenance, repair and replacement. Also, TMV has supported the recovery and recycling of HFC/CFC - two noxious gases regarded as the cause of the greenhouse effect.

Used bottle and plastic can recovery

 

From 2002 up to now, TMV dealers have collected tons of used plastic bottles and cans before transferring them to licensed companies to recycle. This is a practical action to protect the environment, save resources as well as to ensure clean manufacturing applied globally for all parts of the system.
